Fugro Multi Client Services and project partner Searcher Seismic have reprocessed over
30,000 kms of seismic data and have also acquired almost 13,000 kms of non-exclusive data in the Gulf of Papua. The Lahara 2D Seismic Survey was acquired in water depths ranging from 30m in the west, to over 2,500m in the eastern frontier area. The new seismic data has revealed a thick sedimentary section below what was previously believed to be a shallow basement reflector. A number of deep grabens have also been identified in the sparsely explored deepwater areas.
Due to modern processing techniques significant improvements have been made to the reprocessed data. There is a significant difference to section quality, particularly to the older vintage data in the eastern frontier area.
